Filipina Mompreneurs Power Business Growth with AI Through Google Gemini Academy
Women’s Month may have officially wrapped, but its impact continues to ripple across communities.
Filipina mompreneurs are sustaining that momentum by embracing technology to strengthen their businesses and create lasting change.Supporting this movement is PLDT Home, which continues to empower women-led enterprises through reliable connectivity, digital upskilling, and a strong support network like Madiskarte Moms PH. In collaboration with Google Philippines, the second run of the Gemini Academy brought together 44 women-led micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across Metro Manila. The program equipped participants with practical artificial intelligence tools to improve marketing, streamline operations, and make smarter business decisions.
Today, AI is no longer out of reach for small business owners. It has become a practical tool that helps entrepreneurs save time, simplify processes, and focus on growing sustainable businesses.
For Princess Alvarez, owner of ISLA Everything Accessories, AI transformed the way she manages her business. Without a technical background, she used Google’s Gemini to generate advanced Google Sheets formulas through simple prompts. This allowed her to build a customized pricing calculator and business tracker that automates cost computations and provides real-time visibility into her profits.
Beyond improving her own operations, Alvarez shares these tools with fellow entrepreneurs, helping them solve one of the most common challenges in handmade businesses, accurate pricing.
Jenielyn Sicabalo-Nieva of MP Nieva’s Flower Company also found value in using AI as a creative and strategic partner. While her husband leads the floral design, she manages the business side and uses Gemini to research global bouquet trends and develop new product ideas.
One standout moment came when her team handled flowers for a local movie premiere. By using AI to identify the actors’ preferences, they created personalized arrangements that resonated with the recipients, showing how data-driven insights can elevate creative work.
Her experience highlights how AI can support, rather than replace, human creativity.
Adoption of AI is also bridging generational gaps. Mercedita Madrona, a 64-year-old entrepreneur and owner of Kusinanay’s Food Products, demonstrates that it’s never too late to learn new tools. As a Gawad Madiskarte finalist, she uses AI in her messaging apps to communicate more effectively with clients, an approach that helped her successfully close a major property sale.
Her story reflects a mindset shared by many participants: a willingness to learn and adapt can open new opportunities, regardless of age.
These real-world applications were at the heart of the Gemini Academy, a joint initiative by Google Philippines, PLDT Home, and Madiskarte Moms PH. This year’s program focused on practical use, showing participants how AI can support everyday business needs, from organizing information to generating content and improving workflows.
Tools like NotebookLM help entrepreneurs turn research into actionable insights, while Gemini’s built-in creative features support content creation and branding. Operational tools further simplify backend processes, allowing business owners to focus on growth and family priorities.
To encourage continued adoption, Google Philippines and PLDT Home also introduced the Gemini Special Award for the 2027 Gawad Madiskarte, recognizing entrepreneurs who effectively use AI to scale their businesses.
As more women embrace these tools, the impact extends beyond individual success. Stronger businesses contribute to more resilient families and communities, reinforcing the vital role of women in driving inclusive growth.
The momentum sparked during Women’s Month continues, and for Filipina mompreneurs, it is steadily shaping a more innovative and empowered future.
